ENGLISH

About this app

Plant Sunlight Check estimates ambient light (lux) from your iPhone camera's exposure settings and tells you whether a spot is bright enough for your houseplant. It compares the reading against the plant's light requirement (DLI — daily light integral) and shows one of four verdicts: not enough, a little low, just right, or possibly too strong.

About the camera (important): Only the camera's exposure values (ISO, shutter speed, aperture) are used to measure light. No photo or video is ever captured, stored or transmitted. No image data leaves your device or is saved within the app.

How to use

  1. Pick your plant (33 varieties; choose "Typical houseplant" if unsure)
  2. Carry your phone to the spot where the plant will live
  3. Hold it level with the screen facing up (don't shade it with your hand or body)
  4. Read the verdict once the number settles

Timing matters. Measure during the brightest part of the day for that spot. Readings taken early, late or on an overcast day will look darker than the spot really is.

Please note: The values are estimated from camera exposure and differ from a dedicated lux or PAR meter. The lux-to-PPFD conversion also depends on the light source. Treat them as a guide. They are most useful for comparing one spot against another — a windowsill versus the back of a room. In very bright conditions the camera reaches the limit of its range; the app then says the light is too bright to measure accurately.
